Lady Ravens Earn Two OT Victories Over Thanksgiving Break

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team played two home Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference  (KJCCC) overtime games over the Thanksgiving holiday break.  In the first matchup on Wednesday, November 24th, the Lady Ravens defeated the Conquistadors of Dodge City 60-58 in overtime.  The second game of the holiday break came on Saturday, November 27th, and saw the Lady Ravens come back from a first-half deficit to post an 82-78 triple-overtime victory over the Trojans of Colby Community College.  With the two overtime victories, Coffeyville improved their overall record to 9-1 including a 3-1 KJCCC record.

In a close game, points are at a premium.  Against Dodge City, free throws pulled the game out for the Lady Ravens.  For the game, Coffeyville hit 16-18 free throws for 89% compared to Dodge hitting 8-17 or 47%.  Down the stretch and into overtime, those points helped the Lady Ravens to the two-point 60-58 victory.  Coffeyville's Faith Simpson led all players with 17 points and 9 rebounds along with Red Raven Amiya Josey who pitched in 10 points and 7 rebounds. 

In their second overtime game of the break, the Lady Ravens defeated the Colby Trojans in triple overtime.  In a first half that saw the Ravens only score four points in the second quarter, the Red Ravens went into halftime down 32-19.  In the second half, the Red Ravens came out pushing the pace and slowly chipped away at the halftime deficit.  By the end of regulation, Coffeyville tied the game at 60-60.  The first overtime had each team only scoring three points each and the first overtime ended tied at 63-63.  The second overtime had more scoring, but again the period ended with both teams tied with a score of 71-71.  The third overtime saw the fouls starting to mount with Colby losing three players to fouls and Coffeyville losing one.  Coffeyville finally was able to post some breathing room on the scoreboard in the triple overtime and earned the 82-78 victory.

Coffeyville's Faith Simpson posted game-highs with a 22 point 13 rebound double double. Red Raven sharpshooter Paige Scott added 21 points (hitting 5/12 three-pointers) along with reserve Nakia Cullom pitching in 14 points and Amiya Josey contributing 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Coffeyville will hit the road over the next week with a Wednesday, December 1st matchup against Butler in El Dorado Kansas, and a December 4th game scheduled at Barton Community College in Great Bend Kansas.  Game times for those contests are 5:30 pm in El Dorado on December 1st and 2:00 pm in Great Bend on December 4th.
