Ravens' defense beats Ravens

Wilburton, Okla. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Softball Team traveled to Wilburton Oklahoma where they played a doubleheader against the Eastern Oklahoma State Mountaineers.

Game 1: Red Ravens 0 - EOSC 5

The Red Raven softball team couldn't overcome defensive miscues today.  Game one starter Justina Raye pitched competitively, scattering 8 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts but the defense behind her struggled with four untimely errors. Only two earned runs in the books for Eastern Oklahoma State should have led to a closer match-up, but the Ravens struggled mentally at the plate. "We were looking for someone to make an adjustment at the plate and it didn't happen," stated coach Mike Neal.  The Ravens were not overmatched at the plate just unwilling to be aggressive and decisive in the box. Every player in the Coffeyville lineup had a strikeout, the Red Ravens as a whole struck out a total of 12 times in the game.

Game 2: CCC 3 - EOSC 7

The Ravens' offense gave Joe Arrington more support in game two. Outhitting the Mountaineers, Coffeyville collected 9 hits and a walk, while only striking out 5 times. Grace Batdorf and Alex Ginnis each provided a third of the runs via solo home runs in the third and sixth innings respectively. Both having good days at the plate going 3 for 4 on the day. Payton Hayes drove in the third and final run. The CCC defense kept letting the mountaineers back in the game, notching five errors and various miscues.

With a week of practice before the next games, hopefully, the defense will make the adjustments they are working on in practice. Over the past three weeks, the team has worked hard to make adjustments to notes from previous games. The improvements can be seen.  This double-header gives the team a new list of items to get to work on.
