Ravens Spar With Aggies

Tishomingo, Okla. - The Red Ravens traveled south to Tishomingo, Oklahoma knowing they were in for a fight. The Murray State Aggies boasting a 24-0 record on the season are nothing but impressive. The Ravens' goal was to improve as a team, gain confidence in executing certain aspects of the game and learn where we stood going into conference in the next few weeks.

"I thought we fell short of our potential in the last games vs Avila and I was really hoping we would show up today and compete," Coach Smith commented.   "These two games with Murray State were exactly what we needed today."

The Aggies did grab two W's when it was all said and done but the Red Ravens gave them a fight. In game one Justina Raye kept the Aggies off balance and off the board for three innings. Eventually, an Aggie hitter laced a 3-run hit with two outs in the fourth. Raye powered back on the next hitter and got the third out. In the sixth inning, the Aggies would go one, two, three, and not till the sixth did Murray state plate three more. The Ravens' defense was excellent in the game but the Murray State hurlers put a damper on the offense. Grace Batdorf led the Ravens' offense going two for two with a double.

Game two was even better to watch. The Ravens made some adjustments at the plate and put pressure on the Aggie defense in 5 out of 6 innings. Grace Batdorf and Alex Ginnis led the way at the plate. Grace went 3 for 4 on the game with 2 runs scored and Alex followed up behind her in the lineup 2 for 4 with a monster shot to right-center in the fifth inning.  "They hit the ball hard in the second game, even the outs," says Smith.  "The game just felt good, even ending with two runners in scoring position. We're definitely improving."

The second game finished 7-4. Joe Airington was the pitcher of record and did very well scattering 8 hits and only five runs on the day. Jade Jimboy is also finding success in her innings later in games.

The Red Ravens will host their first home games of the season on Tuesday, March 14th. Gametimes at Byers Field are set for 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
