Coach Cherico brings numerous years of experience at the collegiate level to the Red Ravens program.

 

Throughout his career; he has held the titles of Defensive Coordinator, Associate Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Strength Coordinator and Director of Football Operations. Cherico comes to us from the High School ranks, spending time as a Coach and Athletic Director at two different High Schools in the State. 

 

He is no stranger to the Jayhawk Conference or the Red Raven program, previously he has coached at Garden City CC, where they won the 2016 NJCAA / JC Gridiron National Championship and they had the #1 overall defense in the country. Prior to GCCC, he spent a few years at Lane College where he was the Defensive Coordinator and coached the defensive front. Coach Cherico spent over 20 years at the Junior College level, coaching at Fort Scott CC (2009-2011), and Coffeyville CC (1995-2008). Prior coaching experience included stops at North Dakota State U., Montana State U., and Bethany College (KS), his alma mater.

 

Cherico has coached 43 All-Americans and has recruited or coached over 60 plus NFL players, such as Brandon Jacobs (NYG), Reggie Nelson (OAK), Jonathon Joseph (HOU), DeShaun Goldson (TB), James Carpenter (ATL), LaVonte David (TB), Paul Solai (MIA), Mike Hughes (DET), Lonnie Johnson (KC) to mention a few.

 

Cherico earned his BA degree in Health & PE/Recreation from Bethany College and his MS Ed. degree from Fort Hays State University. He will also serve as the Head Powerlifting Coach for Coffeyville CC, in August of 2021 he obtained his certified Olympic and Powerlifting Coach credentials through the American Sports & Fitness Association. He is married to the former Karla J. Griffin and they have two sons Rico, Luciano; two daughters Griffin and Atelen; and one grandson Beckham.
