Red Ravens Blank the Scotties of Highland 30-0

Highland, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team traveled to Highland Kansas and earned a convincing 30-0 victory over the Scotties of Highland Community College.  The win pushes Coffeyville's overall record to 2-1 which has the Ravens tied for third currently in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) standings with Independence Community College.

Coffeyville came into this game after an early-season bye.  The Ravens had earned their first win of the year back on Saturday, April 3rd with a 38-10 victory over Dodge City. However, they then had to rest with a week off along which gave them two weeks to prepare for the trip to Highland.

The week off might have affected the Ravens as they seemed a little sluggish in the first half.  The majority of the first half saw both teams going three and out and punting.  However, the Red Ravens finally came alive at the 3:44 mark of the second quarter with freshman running back Star Thomas breaking loose for a 9-yard touchdown run.  The Skyler Seagrave extra point gave the Red Ravens a 7-0 halftime lead.

A big 75-yard touchdown pass from Coffeyville's redshirt freshman quarterback Kolbe Langhi to fellow redshirt freshman wide receiver Cortarious Wilson was the highlight of the third quarter, giving the Ravens a 14-0 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Coffeyville set the tone of the fourth quarter early with the Raven defense quickly tackling the Highland rusher in the end zone for a safety.  Off of the safety and ensuing Highland kick, Coffeyville took over at the Highland 35 yard line and four rushes later and redshirt freshman running back Cortney Jackson scampered two yards for the Ravens touchdown.  A Seagraves extra point pushed the Red Raven lead out to 23-0 at the 13:36 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Ravens added a last insurance touchdown with freshman running back Torrance Farmer adding a 20-yard rushing touchdown to seal the 30-0 victory.

Overall the Ravens had 322 total yards of offense to Highland's 114.  Coffeyville had 234 ground yards to Highland's 36 and the Ravens had 88 yards through the air to Highland's 78.

Defensively, the Red Ravens were led by freshman linebacker Reise Collier who had 14 tackles, and sophomore defensive lineman Allen Henry who had 11 tackles.  Redshirt freshman defensive back Jayquan Frazier, freshman linebacker Jhalyn Shuler and sophomore defensive lineman Devin Lee all had interceptions in the game.

Next up for Coffeyville will finally be a home game!  The Ravens will host the Butler Grizzlies on Sunday, April 25th at 1:30 pm at Veteran Memorial Stadium.
