Tracy Scroggins

Fullback (1988-89)

Tracy Scroggins was an outstanding running back from Checotah, Oklahoma where he was a three-sport athlete in high school.  He was a stand out in football, basketball, and track.  Tracy was recruited by Dick Foster to play football for the Red Ravens.  He played in 1988 and also played fullback on Skip Foster’s first team in 1989.

Tracy says, “The one thing that I liked about Coffeyville was that the coaches really stressed academics.  I really respected them for that.”  While sharing the Red Raven backfield with tailback Greg Ervin, Scroggins never expected to eventually become a defensive star for an NFL team.

Scroggins says, “When you play ball and go to college, you have dreams and aspirations about reaching the next level.  I knew from a physical standpoint that had the size, speed, and strength to have a decent chance.  It was kind of shocking to end up on the defensive side of the ball.  I have always been the type of person who never forgets where I come from.  I will help the program out any way I can.  Long after professional football, I want to be involved with the Red Raven program  This is my home.  I will always be a part of the Coffeyville family.  In retrospect, I would not trade my experience at Coffeyville Community College for the world.”

After finishing his career with the Ravens, Scroggins attended Tulsa University.  Head Coach David Rader moved him to defensive end, which laid the groundwork for the NFL.  Tracy was drafted by the Detroit Lions, which was the only team he played for in the NFL.  He was an outstanding player for ten NFL seasons.  He played 142 games and started in 89.  He had 60.5 sacks, one interception, and two touchdowns during his career with the Lions.

Tracy has two homes: one in Michigan and a condo in Florida, where he spends his time now that he is retired.
