Terry Callahan

Center/Linebacker (1963-64)

Terry Callahan graduated in 1963 from Liberal High School in Kansas.  During his senior year, he was named First Team All-State in basketball, averaging over 20 points per game and 14 rebounds.  In football, he played both offensive and defensive tackle.

As a freshman at Coffeyville Community College, Callahan played football for Coach Bill Mills and basketball for Coach Buddy Ball.  He was named Honorable Mention All-Conference in football as a center.  During his sophomore season, he was named First Team All-Conference.  In addition, Terry was presented the Wayne Hittle Memorial Award, an award given annually to a sophomore lineman who demonstrates the high moral character, the degree of excellence, and the love for football exemplified by Wayne Hittle.

In 1964, Terry accepted a scholarship to the University of Utah.  After spring ball in 1964, Terry and several other players transferred to Westminter College in Salt Lake City to play for Coach George Seifert, who eventually became coach of the San Francisco 49ers where he won two Super Bowls.  At Westminster, Terry played both offensive and defensive end.  In his junior season, he caught 43 passes as a tight end.  Westminster College was a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference.  After graduating in 1968, he accepted a job as head football and basketball coach at Wasatch Academy High School in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

In 1969, Terry was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He served as a medic with the 25th Infantry Division and First Air Cavalry Division.  He was awarded two bronze stars for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in addition to several other medals for his distinguished service.

After his service was completed in 1971, Terry returned to Salt Lake City and entered the University of Utah where he earned a masters degree in education.  In 1973, he accepted a position with the United States Courts, District of Utah, as a U.S. Probation Officer.  In 1989, he was promoted to Chief U.S. Probation Officer.  In 1985, Terry graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, where he earned a masters degree in criminal justice.  From 1987 to 1989, Terry was President of the Westminster College Alumni Association and a member of the Board of Trustees.

Terry lives in Salt Lake City with his wife Michele, and two sons, Bryce and Jace.  He enjoys tennis, golf, fishing, and biking.
