In his first year at Coffeyville Junior College, under Coach Bill Mills, Cecil played offensive tackle with the team finishing as Jayhawk Juco Co-Champs and was named to the Jayhawk Juco Conference All-League Football Team. As a sophomore guard and punter, he was presented the Silver Helmet Award by Head Coach Reg Hurd for “contributing most” to the college’s football program.

Just as in Coffeyville, Cecil started at offensive tackle his first year at West Virginia University and then moved to guard his second year. For his outstanding performance, he was awarded team captain for three games. He finished his senior year with a 10-1 season and a Peach Bowl victory over South Carolina.

After graduation, Cecil became a teacher at Swissvale High School, just east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and coached football for ten years. After a merger, Ron retired from coaching but continued to teach physical education, swimming, health and personal fitness at Woodland Hills High School. He also worked for twenty years as a Safety Consultant for Conco Systems, a service company for coal and nuclear power plants.

Now retired for ten years, Cecil is still living in Oakmont where he and his wife of forty-nine years, raised their son and daughter. Ron is the proud grandfather of four.
