Reggie Epps

Linebacker (1976-77)

Reggie Epps, Overland Park, KS, was recruited to CCC by former Raven Coach Mike Sweatman.  In two seasons as a Red Raven, Reggie started all 22 games.  He played in the 1976 Wool Bowl and was named the team’s Outstanding Freshman.  In 1977, he was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, 1st Team All Jayhawk Conference and 1st Team All American.  As the defensive captain, Reggie was called “a coach in the field” by Raven Linebacker Coach and Defensive Coordinator Pat Henderson.

After CCC, Reggie followed Coach Sweatman to the University of Tulsa.  As a Golden Hurricane, he again started all 22 games at linebacker.  Though red-shirted his senior year due to injury, he graduated in 1980, rehabbed and returned to play as a 5th year graduated student.  In his two seasons at Tulsa, Reggie was twice honored as an All Missouri Valley Conference Linebacker, received honorable mention as an Academic All American and set a single season record for tackles.

Ordained to Christian ministry in 1981, Reggie has served as an Area Representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Youth Minister, Chaplain of the Kansas City Royals (1983-1991) and Senior Pastor of three different congregations.  Reggie is currently Senior/Teaching Pastor of Legacy Christian Church, a unique multi-campus church with three locations in the Kansas City area. Recent trips have included Mexico, Russia, China, India, Israel, Germany and Austria.  Reggie received a Master of Arts Degree in 1988 and a Master of Divinity in 2000 from Cincinnati Christian Seminary.  He is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry from Lincoln Christian Seminary and is a Trustee at Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan, KS, where he teaches courses in Leadership, Church Growth, and Evangelism as an Adjunct Professor.

Reggie and his wife Shara just celebrated their 30th anniversary.  The joys of their lives are their two married daughters, Angela and Abigail and their son Zachary.

“As a Red Raven, I learned to set big goals, develop sound strategies, work hard, make adjustments and overcome unforeseen obstacles, and above all to preserve. These lessons have served me well in my life’s calling as a servant-leader in my home and in the Lord’s Church.”
