Nolan Luhn

Coach (1967-1995)

Nolan Luhn, a native of Kenney, TX, has always been associated with winning football.  In Bellville High School at Bellville, TX, Luhn played on the 1938 Texas High School championship team He played in the first high school game he ever saw.

In 1992, he was inducted into his high school Hall of Fame.  From Bellville, it was on to Junior College in Kilgore, TX where he started in both football and basketball.  At Kilgore, he earned All-State honors in football for the two years he was there.  In 1998, Luhn was inducted into the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame.  From Kilgore, he went to Tulsa University, and in his two years there, the team lost only three games and went to two bowl games.

In 1943, Tulsa played in the Sugar Bowl and in 1944, Tulsa picked up the #2 ranking in the country and won the Orange Bowl.  Luhn caught three long passes in the Orange Bowl game and attracted the attention of the Green Bay Packers scouts; they drafted him.  He was to play in the College All-Star game, but they were to play the Packers.  The Packers asked him to play against the All-Stars so he did.

Luhn played for the Packers from 1945 through 1949.  Don Hutson, the Packers great receiver, played and coached Luhn’s first year.  Luhn’s best year was 1947, as he caught nine passes for 140 yards in a game against the Washington Redskins and was named second team All-Pro for 1947.  He is still mentioned in the Packers Press Guide.

In 1950, Luhn moved to Coffeyville, where he worked for North American Car Company and the Page Milk Company.  In 1959, he went to work for CRA, Inc., which is now Farmland Industries, Inc., as pipefitter supervisor.  He retired from CRA in 1983 and has enjoyed his retirement years fishing, traveling and playing tennis with his wife of 33 years, Laudine.  Nolan Luhn has been a volunteers coach with six different CCC coaches.  His longest association was with Dick Foster and then with Skip Foster.
