Michael Coleman

Running Back (1976-77)

Michael Coleman played for the Red Ravens in 1976 and 1977, splitting time at running back with Anthony Flanders and Artrell Hawkins. Michael remembers his best game occurred against NEO, who featured running back James Wilder, an athelete who played for the University of Missouri in the Big 8 and Tampa Bay in the NFL . Coffeyville defeated NEO 43-14, with Michael gaining 163 yards and scoring two touchdowns.

After Coffeyville, Michael transferred to Southern Illinois University where Gale Sayers was the Athletic Director. “I enjoyed success there and believe my years at Coffeyville helped prepare me for the next level,” said Michael. Michael graduated from SIU with a degree in speech communications.

While at CCJC, Barbara Jean Pendleton took Michael under her wings and got him an internship at KGGF Radio. “That’s where I consider my broadcasting career got its start,” said Michael. Today, Michael is the Sports Director at KCTV5-CBS in Kansas City, Mo., the TV market he grew up watching from his home in nearby Lawrence, Kan. Michael has had career stops in Oklahoma, Texas and New York. In 2010, Michael was named a New York Media Legend along with others in the New York market.

Michael also likes talking to youngsters about their goals and dreams.
