Mark White

Halfback (1956)

Mark White started his athletic career at North High School, in Wichita, Kansas, where he was state champion in high jump and played half back for the school’s varsity football team.  He came to CCC for the 1955-56 academic year.  In 1955, he was the NJCAA national champion in high jump, and he anchored the 4x110 yd national champion relay team.  In 1956, he played on the Red Ravens National Champion football team, defeating Grand Rapids, Michigan Jr. College by a score of 46-6, and he was selected First Team All American.  After leaving Coffeyville, Mark attended Colorado State University on a football scholarship as a running back.

Following college graduation, Mark was accepted in the 28th Marine officer candidate class.  There he broke the record in the “Impossible 500” fitness test, held previously by Don Bragg, the national pole vault champion from Villanova University.

Mark later became involved in the Arabian show horse business, owning a farm in Colorado Springs, promoting his own stable and showing several national champions over a 30-year period.  During this time, Mark also participated in the 1991 Oklahoma Senior Olympics, winning the gold metal in the 100 meter dash.

Mark retired from his show horse business in 1995, and now spends most of his time “trying to play golf!!”  He lives with his wife Beverly in Fairhope, Alabama, and enjoys their seven grandchildren.
