Jeff Leiker

Head Coach (2001-07)

Jeff Leiker had quite an impact during his 11-year coaching career in the Jayhawk Conference. During his tenure, he won four conference/Region 6 championships.

Jeff was born in Coffeyville and raised in Independence, KS.  He graduated from Independence High School in 1980.  During his senior season of high school, he was quarterback of the SEK champion football team that went 9-0.  Leiker was also named honorable mention in Class 5A.  He then went on to Independence Community College where he was a quarterback for the Pirates for two years.  He then transferred to Washburn University and was a member of the 1983 CSIC Conference Championship team.  He graduated from Washburn in 1985.

After serving several years as an assistant coach, Jeff moved into a head coach position at Garden City Community College.  Jeff led the Broncbusters to three bowl appearances in four seasons. After holding a 33-11 record from 1992-1995 with Garden City, he moved into the SEC where he was a graduate assistant at the University of Tennesse in 1996.  Jeff earned his master’s degree at Tennesse and after a year as an assistant coach at Missouri Western, he was head coach at Fort Hays State University from 1998 to 2000.

Jeff  returned to the NJCAA in 2001 as the head coach at Coffeyville Community College. He guided the Red Ravens to six consecutive bowl appearances and an overall record of 56-24 (.700).  The 2004 team finished ranked #3 in the final NJCAA poll.  He has an overall 89-35 (.718) record in his NJCAA career.

Nine of his eleven teams in the Jayhawk Conference finished ranked in the top 15 in the NJCAA poll.  He has had over 100 players transfer to NCAA Division I institutions.  Fifty players, 15 at Garden City and 35 at Coffeyville, were named NJCAA or J.C Gridwire All-Americans including Corey Dillon at Garden City, and Brandon Jacobs, Reggie Nelson and Brandon Walker at Coffeyville.  Forty-one players were named Academic All-Americans.

Former CCC players currently playing in the NFL who played for Jeff include Ryan Lilja (Kansas City Chiefs), Brandon Jacobs (New York Giants), Paul Soliai (Miami Dolphins), Dashon Goldson (San Francisco 49ers), Jonathan Joseph (Cincinnati Bengals), Reggie Nelson (Cincinnati Bengals), and Devin Thomas (Washington Redskins).
