Gary Jamison

Lineman (1962-63)

Gary Jamison came to Coffeyville from Warren, Ohio.  He began his Red Raven football career in 1962 as an offensive guard and defensive end.  That team won eight games, lost two, and won the league championship.  He played with R. C. Brown, Sullivan Mills, and Burl Wood.  All of them received All-American honors and were Hall of Fame members.

In 1963, Gary again played offensive guard and defensive end.   The Ravens finished second in the league, winning eight games and losing two.  He made second team All Conference, All American, and was named the National Junior College Lineman of the Year.   Gary led the team on defense with 55 tackles and 50 assists.  That year he played with Burl Wood, R. C. Brown, and Terry Callahan, all of whom were All Americans and Hall of Fame members.

Gary’s best qualities were his size, his speed, his knowledge of the game, his great attitude, and his will to win.  He was a leader who demonstrated great sportsmanship.  During the 1960’s, he was one of the best linemen for the Red Ravens.

Gary left Coffeyville to attend the University of Miami in Florida.  He played offensive guard his first year and offensive center his second year.

Gary worked as a blacksmith for 30 years and runs his own shop making metal art.  He is married, and he resides with his family in West Palm Beach, Florida.
