Gary Bandy

Defensive End (1992-93)

Gary Bandy was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended Central High School.  While at Central High School he participated in Football, Basketball, Track and Field, and was selected First Team All Metro in all three sports during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.

In 1991, after high school, Gary attended Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas.  He was a red-shirt his first year at Coffeyville. The following season as a redshirt freshman, he was selected as an NJCAA second team All-American and All-Conference defensive end. The following year as a sophomore, he was selected All-Conference. He was also a two-time All-American in Track and Field in the shot put. In December 1994 Gary earned an Associates of Arts Degree from Coffeyville Community College and left Kansas headed for Texas.  

In January 1995 through 1996 Gary attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. While at Baylor, he played outside linebacker for the Bears and 1996 was drafted in the 5th round of the National Football League (NFL) draft as a defensive end to the Atlanta Falcons.  Unfortunately, his professional football career was cut short by off-the-field injuries.

In 2000, Gary married LaTrece Newsome of Kansas City, MO,and they are proud parents of three daughters: Sydney (14), Morgan (7), and Courtney (3). For ten years, Gary worked as a Real Estate Appraiser in the Kansas City area.  Currently Gary holds a management position in Corporate Security for a leader in the banking industry. During his spare time, Gary coaches girls’ basketball and girls’ softball.
