David Christie

Linebacker (1975-76)

Dave Christie grew up in Kansas City and attended Shawnee Mission South High School.  Dave started as a defensive end on the nationally-ranked Raiders state championship team.  One of his high school teammates included Steve Little, who kicked for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dave was recruited to CCC as a linebacker.  Former Raven Coach Mike Sweatman turned Dave into an aggressive linebacker.  He led the Ravens in tackles in 1975, with a team-leading 103.  He capped off that season with 28 tackles in the Wool Bowl.

Shoulder surgery in 1975 did not keep Dave from his dream of being a team leader and captain in 1976.  As he did in 1975, he started every game and helped lead the Ravens to another Wool Bowl invitation.  He went on to play at Baylor University until a shoulder injury ended his career.

As a Raven, Dave was selected conference player of the week several times and was named to the All Conference Team both years.  Dave also received the Hall of Fame Trophy in 1976.

Dave has two children, Natalie and Jon David, and currently lives in Mission Hills, Kansas.  He has owned D.J. Christie, Inc., a regional shopping center development company, since 1984.  Dave serves on numerous bank boards and non-profits including the Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation, Doulos Ministries and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.  His faith in Christ and love for his children are his priority now, along with hunting and golf.
