Barbara Jean Pendleton

She moved from Van Buren, Arkansas to Coffeyville in 1928.  She saw her first Raven football game in the fall of 1928 when Coffeyville beat Independence for the first time at the old Forest Park (now Walter Johnson Park).  From then until now, she’s been devoted to Raven football.

She attended Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville College before graduating from the University of Montana and returning home to teach at the old McKinley Grade School for ten years.  She then taught a year and a half after World War II at the College.  She returned to teaching in 1956 at Edgewood and Roosevelt Schools before returning to the College in 1963.  B.J. officially retired in 1990, but taught night classes for two more years.  She sponsored the pep club and cheerleaders for twenty years, as well as Phi Theta Kappa, the academic honor society, and was twice selected as Outstanding Kansas Sponsor.  The state society has a named scholarship to honor Mrs. Pendleton.  In 1984, she was selected to the Phi Theta Kappa Hall of Fame.  She holds a master’s degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Pendleton, has two daughters, Emily Ann Biddler of Dallas and Marcy Callaway of Richardson, Texas.  Both are CCC graduates and life members of the CCC Alumni Association.  She has four grandchildren.  Mrs. Pendleton is a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and participates in many civic organizations.  The Quarterback Club honored her with an endowed scholarship in 1990 for her many years of support to Red Raven football.
