Red Raven Volleyball Sweeps #15 Highland To Qualify for Playoffs

Coffeyville, Kan. - Win and you are in.  That is what it came down to for the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Volleyball Team.  And that is what THEY DID!

In their last regular-season game, the Red Ravens defeated the #15 NJCAA ranked Highland Scotties 3-0.  With the win, the Ravens earn the eighth and final seed in their post-season tournament.  Coffeyville ends the regular season with an 11-14 record which includes a 9-11 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) record.  The 9-11 conference mark earned them an eighth place in the eleven-team KJCCC East division.

Coffeyville took control of the match right from the start winning the first set 25-21 and that first set win seemed to set the tone for the Raven players.  The Red Ravens came right back in the second set winning it 25-20.  In the third set, Coffeyville could smell the victory and put away the #15 Scotties 25-17 to earn the sweep over the ranked opponent.

Leading the way for the Ravens was sophomore Raina Forstrom with 11 kills in the match to post 13.5 points.  Freshman Hannah Armstrong and sophomore Jaysa Wichers both had 8 kills with Armstrong posting 12 points and Wichers posting 10.

With the win, Coffeyville now travels up to Johnson County who will host the Plains District A Tournament.  The first, fourth, fifth, and eighth place teams in the KJCCC East division qualify for the District A Tournament.  As the #8 seed, Coffeyville is scheduled to play the #1 seed, as well as the #4 NJCAA ranked, Johnson County in the first round.

The first-round match is set for Friday, April 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson County.  Full District A pairings and bracket along with tournament times can be found by clicking HERE!
