The Ravens Split Season Opener against #20 Hutchinson

    The Ravens took on the #20 ranked Hutchinson Community College in their home opener Saturday. They split the series 1-1, Hutchinson took the first game 11-8 and The Ravens took the second 9-7.

    The Blue Dragons got on the board first against starting pitcher Matt Hunt, with a two-run home run in the top of the first. The Ravens quickly responded with three runs of their own sparked by a leadoff double by Sophomore Blake Carroll. The scoring went back in forth with neither team able to get a zero in the first four innings. Freshman reliever Raymond Farrell came in the fourth for the Ravens slowing down the Hutch offense with six Strikeouts. In the bottom of the fourth Red-shirt freshman Austin Trahan hit a solo homerun adding pressure on Hutchinson. Hutch went on to hit another home run increasing their lead. The Ravens kept battling scoring three more in the fifth inning bringing, but that would be as close as they would come with the final score finishing at 11-8.

    In the second game Jackson Blancarte started on the bump helping the Ravens take an early lead. Blancarte boasted a solid 8 K's in 5 innings of work. He was helped out by a supporting 8 runs. Luis Mendoza with an RBI  double off the wall followed by an RBI single by Jorge Ortiz pushed the Raven lead to five. Austin Trahan hit a two-run  homerun over the left field wall to cap off a huge inning by the Coffeyville Red Ravens. Sophomore, Donnie Beck, came in for relief in the fifth inning. After giving up 2 walks, he got himself out of a jam with runners on first and third, sealing a shutout inning. Kris Sloan later comes in on the bump and shuts the Blue Dragons down to get the Red Ravens their first season win.

    The Red Ravens host Butler Community College Friday Feb. 8th for another double header @ 1pm and 3pm.
