Heltemes Fans 11 Grizzlies

The Red Ravens baseball team hosted the Butler Community College Grizzlies on Thursday, February 16th.  The Red Ravens had a complete day as they dominated on the mound, as well as, at the plate.

In game one, sophomore starting pitcher Gavin Heltemes (1-0, 2.00 era, 14k) threw 5 innings with a staggering 11 strikeouts giving the Red Ravens the confidence they needed to put on a display at the plate.  The start was Heltemes' second strong outing.  In the previous week, Heltemes faced off against #7 Hutchinson where he would go 4 innings, 3 strikeouts, 1 earned run, and 2 hits.

Sophomore outfielder Isaiah Wilson became the first Red Raven to hit a home run on the season as he sent a fastball sailing over the left field fence just under the scoreboard.  The offense wouldn't be held down to that one home run.  On the game the Red Ravens posted five home runs, two coming from freshman firstbaseman/designated hitter Jorge Ortiz.

Ortiz showed his tremendous power as the two home runs he hit would clear the fence and the road behind the baseball field.  His second home run on the game continued to rise at it passed the right field lights.

Freshman middle infielder Blake Carroll continued his strong start as he went 2/4 with his first two collegiate RBI's.

In his first collegiate game, freshman Zachary Freeman went 3/4 with two RBI's/stolen bases/runs, and a double.

Head coach Jake Martin turned to sophomore pitchers Garrick Johnson and David Lucero to close out the 18-5 win.
