Red Raven  Volleyball Splits Home Opener, Loses 3-1 to #9 Neosho, Wins 3-0 Over OKWU JV

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Volleyball Team split their home opener losing the opening game 3-1 to #9 NJCAA ranked Neosho County Community College and then coming back and defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan JV 3-0 in the second match of the day.  The split puts the Red Ravens 2021 overall record at 1-5 including 0-1 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play.

The opening match of the afternoon had the Red Ravens going up against the #9 NJCAA ranked Neosho County Panthers.  In the first two sets, Coffeyville found themselves behind early in both sets eventually losing 25-16 and 25-17 to fall behind 0-2 to Neosho.  The Red Ravens were able to play a better set in the third gaining a set back with a 25-19 victory.  However, Neosho put away the Red Ravens with a 25-9 victory in the fourth to take the match 3-1.

Coffeyville leaders versus Neosho included sophomore Heather Stiles with 10 kills and 16 assists and sophomore Paola Molina with 23 digs.

The second match of the day saw the Red Ravens defeat Oklahoma Wesleyan JV 3 sets to 0 to earn Coffeyville their first victory of the season.  The sets were close, however, Coffeyville was able to win them 25-23, 25-22, and 25-22.

Game leaders for Coffeyville versus OKWU JV included sophomore Hanah Armstrong with 16 kills and Heather Stiles with 18 assists.  Defensively, the Red Ravens had a group effort with Paola Molina registering 10 digs along with sophomore Yeishka Reyes with 9 digs and Stiles with 8.

Coffeyville will return to action on Friday, August 27th with road matches scheduled at Independence Kansas.  The Red Ravens are scheduled to play Lamar Community College at 1:00 pm and then turn around and play Independence Community College at 3:00 pm.
