After Two Overtimes, Red Ravens Fall to #15 Barton on Penalty Kicks

Wichita, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team fought through a scoreless regulation and two overtime periods but in the end, succumbed to #15 Barton Community College in penalty kicks after the second overtime.  Barton netted four penalty kicks to Coffeyville's one to defeat the Red Ravens in the Plains District Semifinal.

As of now, The Red Raven's season ends with an overall record of 14-4-2 including a 9-3-1 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matches, however, the Red Ravens will be anxiously awaiting to see if they will be able to receive an "At-Large" bid into the NJCAA National Championships.

This District Semifinal saw both teams play ferocious defense with few shot attempts by either team.  Barton outshot Coffeyville in regulation 10-3 yet the Red Ravens took the fight to Barton in the two overtime periods where they outshot Barton 5-2.  Coffeyville's sophomore goalkeeper Catriona Burns turned away all five shots-on-goal she faced in regulation and the two overtimes.

In talking about his team and their fight on the day, Coffeyville Women's Head Coach Jerrid Schicke said "I am so incredibly proud of our ladies.  They went against all odds and left it all out on the pitch.  I definitely think we were the better side and the girls competed at a high level.  It's disappointing to be knocked out of the tournament in a penalty shootout but that's football.  They made Coffeyville proud and I am so lucky to be associated with them."
