Veronica Calixto's Hat Trick Powers Coffeyville to a 5-2 Opening Round Playoff Victory over Cowley

Coffeyville, Kan. - Coffeyville freshman forward Veronica Calixto picked a good day to have a good day.  Previous to Sunday's District Quarterfinal game against Cowley, Calixto had a total of four goals on the season.  Calixto exploded for the hat trick of three goals against Cowley in the 5-2 Raven victory.  With the victory, the Red Raven's overall season record improves to 14-4-1 including a 9-3-1 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchups.  The 14 victories on the season tie the 2017 Red Raven Women's Soccer team as well as the 2013 Red Raven team for the most victories in a season.  More importantly, this victory moves Coffeyville on into the Semifinal Round of the District Playoffs where they will face the #15 NJCAA-ranked Cougars of Barton.

Coffeyville jumped out quickly against Cowley with sophomore forward Alia Jaidi opening up the scoring midway through the first half with an assist by freshman Thayline Teixeira to give the Ravens an early 1-0 lead over the Tigers.  Just five minutes later, Calixto netted her first goal on the day with an assist by sophomore Riley Palmer to put Coffeyville up 2-0 over Cowley.  Cowley was able to net a goal of their own later in the first half that pulled the score to 2-1 with the Ravens leading at halftime.

The second-half scoring was opened with Calixto taking a Shyanne Reid assist and expertly popping it over Cowley's goalkeeper to net her second goal of the day and give Coffeyville a 3-1 lead.  A few minutes later, Red Raven Jaidi got back into the mix herself with her second goal of the day with an unassisted goal to put Coffeyville up 4-1 with 22 minutes left in the match.  Cowley marked a goal of their own with roughly 13 minutes left in the contest to pull within 4-2.   Just a few seconds after Cowley's second goal, Calixto secured the hat trick with her third goal of the match taking a Teixeira pass and easily putting it into the net for the final 5-2 Red Raven Victory.

The #3-seeded Red Ravens will move on into the Semifinal Round of the Plains District Playoffs as they will face the #2-seeded and #15 NJCAA-ranked Barton Cougars.  The Semifinal rounds along with the Championship round of the District Playoffs will be played at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita Kansas.  The Ravens vs Barton matchup is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, November 3rd in Wichita Kansas.
