On Sophomore Night, Red Ravens Defeat Neosho County 2-1 in OT

Coffeyville, Kan. - On sophomore night, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team defeated the Neosho County Panthers 2-1 in overtime.  With the victory, the Red Ravens ended their 2022 regular season with an overall record of 13-4-1 including a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) record of 9-3-1.  The 9-3-1 KJCCC record placed the Ravens second in the five-team KJCCC East Division.

Both Coffeyville and Neosho played a defensive first half with neither team able to gain any traction on the offensive side of the field and the score at halftime remained a 0-0 tie.

The same can be said about much of the second half, however, the scoring happened late in the second half.  The Panthers of Neosho jumped on the scoreboard first with just 17:00 remaining in the match, Neosho scored off of a corner kick to take the lead 1-0 over the Ravens.  Coffeyville was able to respond about ten minutes later with just 8:30 left in the game with Red Raven sophomore Shyanne Reid taking a corner kick from freshman Thayline Teixeira and redirecting it with authority to the back of the net to tie the match up at 1-1.  The seconds ticked off and regulation ran out with the match tied at 1-1.

Just a shade over a minute into the ten-minute overtime period Red Raven sophomore Ashleigh Sweat took a Riley Palmer assist and lasered it to the top left corner of the goal for the Coffeyville 2-1 game-winner.

Coffeyville will now wait to see who they will face in the opening rounds of the district Playoffs.  The district playoffs opening round is set for Sunday, October 30th and Coffeyville waits to see if they will host or if they will travel for their matchup.
