Red Ravens Win Third in a Row With 4-1 Victory Over Neosho

Chanute, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Women's Soccer Team defeated the Panthers of Neosho 4-1.  With the victory, the Red Ravens' overall record moves to 7-3.  Coffeyville is currently on a three-game winning streak.

The Lady Red Ravens started the game with high intensity by pressing Neosho to force them to give the ball away. Once Coffeyville gained possession, they quickly looked to attack the Panthers and finish with a shot on goal. Neosho did well to defend and their goalkeeper made a couple of key saves to keep the game at 0-0.

Ten minutes into the first half, sophomore Mediatrix Masiga set the Lady Red Ravens up for a corner kick. Masiga crossed a dangerous ball into the near post that the Neosho defender and goalkeeper could not handle. The ball went past both of them and ended up in the back of the net. This goal showed the kind of quality Coffeyville has on their team as Mediatrix scored directly from a corner kick. It would end up being a busy first half for Coffeyville. They earned a penalty kick in the 20th minute that sophomore Louise Atkinson put away. Just five minutes later, Atkinson was fouled in the box which resulted in another penalty kick in favor of Coffeyville. Sophomore Rachael Manley put the Lady Red Ravens third goal away without hesitation. With just ten minutes left in the first half, Coffeyville crossed the ball into the box and a Neosho defender used their hand to block the cross. The Lady Red Ravens were awarded their third penalty of the game. Mediatrix picked up the ball confidently and headed straight for the penalty spot. Masiga sent the Neosho goalkeeper the wrong way and smashed the ball into the top right corner. The first half would finish with a score of 4-0 to Coffeyville.

With a busy spring schedule, Coffeyville looked to keep possession second half and conserve their energy. The Lady Red Ravens were patient while possessing the ball. They swung the ball from side to side forcing the Panthers to defend them. Once Neosho stepped to the ball, the Lady Red Ravens would look to expose the gaps left behind the Neosho defense. Coffeyville shot the ball well but was unable to get another goal past the Neosho goalkeeper.  Coffeyville did not allow the Panthers to get close to their goal again. The Lady Red Ravens kept possession of the ball and forced Neosho to defend. It was a professional second-half performance from Coffeyville and they finished the game with the 4-1 win.

Coffeyville's next test will be on May 8 as they host #12 Cowley County CC. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
