Raven Women Earn Second Win of Season with 3-1 Victory Over Garden City

Garden City, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team earned their second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Garden City Broncbusters.  With the win the Red Ravens even up their overall record at 2-2 which includes a 1-2 KJCCC conference mark.

The Coffeyville Lady Red Ravens traveled 6 hours to play their KJCCC match-up against Garden City CC on Sunday, April 11. Kickoff was set for 1 pm and it was going to be another windy game in Kansas for the Lady Red Ravens.

Coffeyville got off to another great start by netting a goal within the first two minutes of the game. Sophomore Louise Atkinson served in the ball from a corner kick that was put on a platter for freshman Shyanne Reid to score her first goal of the season. Shyanne made an aggressive run starting from the top of the box and was able to get on the end of Louise's cross. Coffeyville was awarded a dangerous free-kick just five minutes later. As soon as it was given, everyone looked to freshman Emily Hannah to line it up. Sure enough, Emily drills the ball in from 27-yards out. Hannah's shot is too hot for the Garden City goalkeeper to handle as it deflects off her hands and into the back of the net. The Lady Red Ravens continue to dominate the rest of the first half but are unable to put another goal in the back of the net. Coffeyville finished the first half outshooting Garden City 17-2.

Coffeyville was now playing against the wind second half but did not let that stop them from fighting for another goal. They continued to battle and string together passes throughout the midfield and final third. six minutes into the second half, Garden City was awarded a free-kick from 23-yards out. Garden's #23 struck a good ball towards the bottom right corner that found its way into the back of the goal. The Lady Red Ravens responded well by locking down their defense and attacking the Garden City goal. Atkinson, Manley, Sweat, and Sparks were all testing the Garden's goalkeeper with shots from different angles. Garden City used the wind to their advantage as they did a better job getting up the field and testing Coffeyville's defense. The Lady Red Ravens did well with the pressure and did not let Garden City score the equalizer. Coffeyville showed great determination and was rewarded with five minutes left in the game. Atkinson collected the ball in the middle of the pitch and turned to slot in a through ball to sophomore Rachael Manley. Manley took a great first touch towards goal, created space between her and the Garden City defense, and struck a rocket into the bottom left corner from 15-yards out. Rachael's goal sealed the game for Coffeyville as the Lady Red Ravens finished on top 3-1.

Coffeyville will now have 5 days to recover and prepare for their next game on Saturday, April 17 away at Hutchinson CC. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
