Red Raven Women Earn 5-0 Victory Over Neosho County on Sophomore Night

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team earned their first victory of the year with a 5-0 shut out of the Neosho County Panthers.  With the victory the Ravens' overall record on the year jumps to 1-2.

Coffeyville wasted no time as they found their first goal 10 minutes into the game. Sophomore Nicki Sparks passed the ball into the back of the net after Sophomore Rachael Manley's shot was saved by the Neosho County goalkeeper. Coffeyville did not stop there as they continued to move the ball around well and test the Neosho backline. With 9 minutes left in the first half, set piece specialist sophomore Emily Hannah lined up for a 23-yard free-kick. Emily curved the ball perfectly around the wall into the back of the net and gave the Neosho County goalkeeper no chance to make a save. The Lady Red Ravens took a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the half Coffeyville was determined to pick up right where they left off. The Lady Ravens continued to create many chances and put pressure on Neosho County's defense. The Neosho County goalkeeper did well to keep her team in the game by making critical saves to keep Coffeyville from scoring. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to keep freshman Danielle Greminger from scoring her first goal of the season. Louise Atkinson did a great job on the wing by clipping the ball in to find Greminger rushing into the box for a first-time finish. Greminger turned from finisher to provider as she found Rachael Manley for Coffeyville's fourth goal. Manley received the ball on a half-turn, showed great skill to beat her defender, and from 20 yards out smashed the ball over the Neosho goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Louise Atkinson finished up the scoring for the lady red ravens with 2 minutes left in the game. Sophomore Selena Zapote made a strong clearance from the backline that found Louise's feet. Atkinson drove the ball down the field past 3 defenders and once she was one on one with the goalkeeper, she was always going to score.

Coffeyville earned the final victory of 5-0. Sophomore night was just the setting the Lady Red Ravens needed to secure their first win of the season. They will be looking to keep that momentum going when they play away at Garden City CC on Sunday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m.
