Red Ravens Earn the 61-53 Upset of #18 Butler

El Dorado, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community Colleg Red Raven Women's Basketball team hit the road on Saturday and managed one of their best wins of the season with a 61-53 defeat of the #18 ranked Butler Grizzlies.  With the victory, the Red Ravens improved their overall record to 15-7 including a 10-6 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchups.

The Red Ravens jumped out quickly in the game with freshman guard Karys Washington converting a layup and hitting a three to give Coffeyville a 5-0 lead to start the game.  Coffeyville pushed their lead out to 14-5 before Butler responded with a 7-0 run to cut the Red Raven lead down to 14-12.  Raven sophomore guard Bailey Layman drilled a 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter to give Coffeyville a 17-12 lead heading into the second quarter.

Coffeyville's Layman hit consecutive 3's as the Ravens went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter to help give Coffeyville a ten-point 33-23 halftime lead over Butler.

Coffeyville kept the Grizzlies at bay in the third quarter finishing the quarter with a 49-37 lead heading into the final ten minutes of the game.

Butler mounted a run in the fourth quarter outscoring the Ravens 16-2 to open the final quarter while taking a 53-51 lead over the Ravens with roughly four and half minutes remaining in the contest.  Coffeyville answered as they outscored Butler 10-0 over the last minutes of the game to earn the 61-53 upset of the #18 ranked Butler Grizzlies.

Game leaders for Coffeyville included sophomore Bailey Layman with 17 points, sophomores Kyleigh Ortiz and Ivy Fox both with 11 points, and freshman Karys Washington with 10 points.

The Red Ravens will return home with a home matchup against the Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Technical College on Wednesday, February 7th.  Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
