Heartbreak! Red Ravens Lose to Barton 60-56 in Region VI Championship Game

Wichita, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team ended their run through the Region VI Tournament with a 60-56 loss to the Barton Cougars in the Championship game.  With the loss, the Red Ravens end their season with an overall record of 21-13.

The #5 seeded Red Ravens found their way into the Region VI Championship game after they defeated the #1 seed Dodge City in the Semifinal round.

Over the last 20 years, the Red Ravens have appeared in two Region VI Championship games.  This year's Region VI Championship game will be the third appearance for the Red Ravens.  Coffeyville lost to Hutchinson 66-58 in the 2015 Region VI Championship game and in the 2007 Region VI Championship game, the Red Ravens lost in overtime to Seward 68-65.

Coffeyville and Barton split their regular season meetings with Coffeyville winning at home on December 3rd 59-50 and Barton winning in Great Bend 70-51 on February 4th.

In the quarterfinals and semifinal rounds the Red Ravens made shots when they were absolutely necessary at key moments in each of those games.  In the Championship game, those shots dried up.

The Championship game was close throughout with neither team holding a lead larger than eight points in the game.  Barton held a slim 19-17 lead after the first quarter and Barton's halftime lead was only a single point at 26-25.  The second half saw Barton build a small cushion of seven points heading into the fourth quarter with a 42-35 lead.  The Red Ravens outscored the Cougars 21-18 in the fourth period to make up three of the seven points but fell by four 60-56.

Statistically, the game was close with both teams shooting 34% overall from the field along with Coffeyville shooting 31% from three and Barton shooting a similar 33%.  An area Barton had a decided advantage was at the charity stripe where Barton was 17-27 overall in the game while Coffeyville was 5-8.

Championship game leaders for Coffeyville included sophomore Kennady Roach with 17 points and freshman Bailey Layman with 12 points.  Sophomore Jordynn Conner pitched in 6 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Coffeyville submitted an At-large bid with a chance to get into the NJCAA National Tournament, but their bid was not accepted and Coffeyville's season ends with a 21-13 record.
