Red Raven Kyleigh Ortiz Scores 26 as Ravens Defeat Hutchinson 73-68 to Advance to Region VI Semis

Hutchinson, Kan. - The #5 seeded Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team defeated the #4 seeded Hutchinson Blue Dragons 73-68 in the Region VI Quarterfinals to advance to the Region VI Semifinals.  With the victory, the Red Ravens notched their 20th win of the year to move to an overall record of 20-12.  This year's appearance in the Region VI Semifinal will be the first for the Coffeyville women since the 2015 Red Raven team lost in the Region VI Championship game to Hutchinson.

Coffeyville had a little something to prove on this night after losing both contests against the Blue Dragon women during the regular season.  Coffeyville lost the first matchup back in December at Hutchinson by 18 points (64-46) and then lost a close one at home against Hutchinson in February (68-63).  The Red Ravens were hungry for the victory.

Coffeyville opened the game strong outscoring Hutchinson in the first quarter 14-7.  Coffeyville was then able to maintain the lead through the second quarter and go into halftime with a 27-23 lead.  Both teams were wanting the victory in the second half, however, each time Hutchinson would get within 5-6 points Red Raven freshman Kyleigh Ortiz would drill a 3-pointer to take the air out of the Blue Dragons' sails.  Ortiz's hot shooting combined with the Red Ravens converting 10-12 free throws in the fourth quarter sealed the 73-68 quarterfinal victory for Coffeyville.

Game leaders for Coffeyville included Kyleigh Ortiz and her 26 points (8/11 from 3) as well as freshman Tetona Woods-Blackowl with 14 points and 8 assists and sophomore Jordynn Conner with an 11 point 10 rebound double-double.

The four remaining teams left in the Region VI Tournament are #1 seed Dodge City, #2 seed Barton, #3 Butler, and #5 Coffeyville.

Coffeyville will play the #1 seed Dodge City on Friday, March 10th in Wichita Kansas on the campus of Friends University.  Tip-off for the semifinal is scheduled for 1:00 pm.  The winner of the Coffeyville/Dodge City semifinal will then play in the Championship game scheduled for 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 11th.
