Red Raven Women's Basketball Open Their KJCCC Season With a 94-67 Defeat of Cowley

Coffeyville, Kan. - On the opening night of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team, in some of their best play of the season to date, defeated the Tigers of Cowley College 94-67.  With the victory, the Red Ravens' overall 2022-23 record improved to 5-2 including 1-0 in KJCCC games.

This game was slated to be a good contest on paper with Coffeyville coming into the game with a 4-2 record and Cowley coming in with a 5-1 record.

Coffeyville looked sharp from the start but this game was decided in the second and third quarters when the Red Ravens outscored the Tigers by a combined 60-29 including a run of 22-3 over Cowley in those quarters.  After three-quarters of play, the Ravens held a 30-point 81-51 lead over the Tigers and the fourth quarter saw multiple bench players for Coffeyville see some valuable minutes of action.

To put it simply, the Ravens shot the Tigers out of the gym.  Coffeyville for the game shot 50% overall (35/70) and a blistering 47% (14/30) from the 3-pt line.  Cowley could not hang with Coffeyville's shooting as the Tigers only shot 34% from the field and 33% from three.  A lot of credit on those low shooting percentages from Cowley could be attributed to Coffeyville's effort on defense.  The Red Ravens came out to start the game with tremendous energy on the defensive end and that energy seemed to carry throughout the game.

The Red Raven offense had some balance on the evening with five players scoring in double figures.  Coffeyville was led by freshman guard Kyleigh Ortiz who poured in 25 points on the night while shooting 7/12 from the 3-pt line.  Sophomore Jordynn Conner contributed 14 points and grabbed four rebounds with sophomores Cheyenne Banks and Makenzie Davis each adding 13 points.  Davis added five rebounds to go with her 13 points.  Rounding out the double-figure scorers' for Coffeyville was sophomore Kennady Roach who added 12 points along with a team-high six rebounds.  Red Raven freshman guard Tetona Woods-Blackowl managed six points to go along with her team-high seven assists on the night.

Coffeyville will stay at home with their next game coming Saturday, November 19th.  The Red Ravens look to add to their KJCCC victory total as they are scheduled to play the Broncbusters of Garden City in Nellis Hall on November 19th with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
