Red Ravens Defeat Butler, Lose Against Seward

Coffeyville, Kan. - In a pair of Saturday - Monday home games, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team split the difference avenging an earlier season road loss to Butler with a 65-51 home victory over the Grizzlies on Saturday followed up by a Monday 67-61 home loss to the Saints of Seward County.  With the split, the Raven's overall record now stands at 15-6 on the season including a 9-6 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) record.  The 9-6 KJCCC Conference record currently has Coffeyville sitting fourth in the thirteen team Conference standings.

 

Saturday 1/29/22 - Red Ravens 65, Butler 51

In their second matchup of the season, the Red Ravens looked to avenge a December 1st road loss against the Grizzlies of Butler that saw Coffeyville lose 82-51 to mark their largest loss of the season.  The Red Ravens came out motivated for some revenge in this one and outscored the Grizzlies in three of the four quarters and grabbed the 65-51 victory to get some payback on the earlier loss. 

Coffeyville outshot Butler in all three phases, 41% overall, 27% from three, and 62% from the free-throw line to Butler's 30%, 17%, and 57%.

Red Raven freshman guard Paige Scott led Coffeyville with 15 points hitting 3 of 9 from behind the 3-point line.  Sophomore center Faith Simpson pitched in 14 points and 8 rebounds to help in the victory.

 

Monday 1/31/22 - Red Ravens 61, Seward 67

In the home matchup against Seward, the Red Ravens came into the contest with some added confidence after the home defeat of Butler, however, some missed free throws in the second half cost the Ravens an opportunity to close out the game and the Ravens lost 67-61.

Second-half free throw shooting was the story in this one for the Ravens.  During a late-game span in the fourth quarter, the Red Ravens missed on seven straight free throws.  The missed free throws allowed the Saints of Seward to stay close and then close out the Ravens 67-61.  For the game, the Ravens shoot 46% (12-26) from the charity stripe but were only 39% (7/18) in the second half.

Faith Simpson was big for the Ravens in this one scoring 19 points and securing 14 rebounds for the double-double.  Raven guard Dariauna Carter scored 12 points in the loss.

 

Next up for Coffeyville will be a home matchup against the Cougars of Barton County.  Tip-off in Nellis Hall is scheduled for Wednesday, February 2nd at 5:30 pm.
