Red Ravens Take Down #25 Hutchinson 64-63 in OT

Coffeyville, Kan. - In their third overtime game of the season, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team defeated the #25th NJCAA ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons 64-63.  With the victory, the Red Ravens' overall record improves to 11-2 including a 5-2 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play.  The 5-2 KJCCC record and 11-2 overall record currently has the Red Ravens in second place out of thirteen teams in the KJCCC Women's Division I Basketball Standings.

The game started out slowly with the Red Ravens leading the Blue Dragons 9-8 after the first quarter.  The second quarter had more scoring but Coffeyville was able to maintain a slim 27-26 lead at halftime.  The Red Ravens were able to extend their lead in the third quarter outscoring Hutchinson 18-11 in the quarter to push an overall lead of 48-41 after three quarters.  Coffeyville's offense in the fourth quarter dipped and Hutchinson was able to take advantage as they outscored Coffeyville 18-11 to make up the seven-point deficit to tie the game at 59-59 at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.   In the overtime, points were at a premium with neither team able to do much offensively.  With the clock winding down, Coffeyville was down 63-61 with ten seconds remaining in the game when Red Raven guard Paige Scott passed the ball to a wide-open Dariauna Carter who drilled the three-point attempt to give Coffeyville the one point 64-63 lead.  As time ran out, Hutchinson was not able to get the ball in the hoop and Coffeyville survived with the 64-63 home victory.

Statistically, the game was very close with both teams shooting 37% in the contest.  Hutchinson did outrebound Coffeyville 42-37.

Top performers for Coffeyville included guard Dariauna Carter with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, forward Faith Simpson who had a big 12/12 point rebound double double, and guards Paige Scott and Nakia Cullom who both pitched in 11 points each.

Coffeyville will wind up their first-semester schedule with a road game up the road to Independence to play the Pirates on Saturday, December 11th with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 pm.
