Red Raven Faith Simpson Scores 41 in 79-60 Victory Over Northwest KS Tech

Coffeyville, Kan. -  The #6 seeded Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team came out quickly in the first round of the Region VI/KJCCC playoffs defeating the #11 seeded Mavericks of Northwest Kansas Technical College 79-60.

The Red Ravens were strong throughout the game, outscoring the Mavericks in every quarter.  Coffeyville shot 48% (27/56) for the game including 36 % (9/25) from behind the three-point line.  The Ravens also outrebounded the Mavericks (44-20), won the points off of turnovers (17-13) as well as bench points (18-9).

The story in this one, however, was Raven sophomore center Faith Simpson.  Simpson scorched the Mavericks of NW KS Tech for a career-high 41 points in the game.  The 41 points bested her previous career-high of 37 she scored last year in a game versus Garden City.   For those wondering, Coffeyville's individual game scoring record is 49 points held by April Jean set during the 2000-01 season.  Simpson scored the 41 points on 15/21 shooting and 11/15 free throws.  With her 41 points, Simpson also grabbed 12 rebounds to post the 41/12 double/double.

Other contributors on the night for Coffeyville included freshman guard Amiya Josey with 11 points and freshman Martina Aeschliman with 8 points.  Sophomore guard Kaylin Lay set the table all night for Simpson dishing out a big 10 assists.

The #6 seeded Coffeyville will move into the second round of Region VI/KJCCC Championships where they will play at #3 seeded Barton Community College.  The second-round games are scheduled for Wednesday, April 7th.  The game time in Barton has not been determined as of this writing.
