Strong Second Half Powers Raven Women Over Indy Pirates 68-59

Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team avenged an earlier season road overtime loss to Independence with a home victory tonight over the Pirates 68-59.  With the win, the Ravens' overall record moves to 13-6 including a 12-6 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.  The 12-6 conference mark has Coffeyville sitting in third place in the seven-team KJCCC East division behind Butler and Independence.

In this one, Coffeyville got stronger as the game played out.  The Ravens scored higher as the quarters ticked off, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, 17 in the second, 19 in the third, and a big 22 points in the fourth quarter.  Independence, on the other hand, scored 17 in the first and then settled for 14 in each of the other three quarters.  Coffeyville's fourth-quarter intensity seemed to take the wind out of the Pirates' sails.

Coffeyville outrebounded Indy (48-41), had fewer turnovers than Indy (18-23) and Coffeyville's bench outscored Indy's bench (28-22).

The Ravens were led by sophomore center Faith Simpson with her seventh double-double of the year with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  Sophomore point guard Kaylin Lay scored 11 points while distributing 5 assists.  Freshman sharpshooter Martina Aeschliman pitched in 10 points.

Coffeyville will wrap up their regular season play at home this Wednesday, March 31st with a matchup against the Grizzlies of Butler County.  Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
