Turnovers Lead to Red Raven Women's 74-61 Defeat at Cloud

Concordia, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team traveled to Concordia Kansas and lost a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) East division matchup to the Cloud County Thunderbirds 74-61.  The loss drops the Red Raven's overall record to 10-4 including a 9-4 KJCCC conference mark.  The 9-4 conference mark currently has Coffeyville sitting in third in the seven-team KJCCC East standings.

Coffeyville found themselves behind for most of the game and was behind by ten points after three quarters (49-39).  The Ravens were able to cut the deficit down to five points (49-44) with 7:17 left to play in the game.  However, Cloud County sophomore forward Le'Yanna McGinnis was just too much for the Red Ravens as she scored 15 of her season-high 35 pts in the fourth quarter to dash any attempt at a Red Raven comeback.

Turnovers seemed to bite Coffeyville in this one.  The Ravens had 28 turnovers on the night which led directly to 22 points for the Thunderbirds of Cloud.  The combination of turnovers with cold shooting, Coffeyville shot 39% overall for the night including a shivering 3/18 (16%) from the 3-point line, doomed the Ravens to the 74-61 defeat.

Red Raven sophomore center Faith Simpson led Coffeyville with 18 points and a season-high 16 rebounds.  Raven freshman guard Makenzie Davis pitched in a season-high 15 points which included scoring 10 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Coffeyville will look to get back on track this Saturday, March 20th with an afternoon home matchup against the Allen County Red Devils.  Tipoff for that game is scheduled in Nellis Hall for 2:00 p.m.
