Raven Women Bounce Back in Handing #6 Butler Their First Defeat of Season

El Dorado, Kan. - After the close buzzer-beating loss to Independence, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team stepped up and handed the #6 NJCAA ranked Butler Grizzlies their first loss of the season in a 69-61 Raven victory.  The win improves the Red Raven's overall record to 9-3 including an 8-3 KJCCC conference mark.  Coffeyville is currently in second place in the seven-team KJCCC East division.

The game started slowly with both teams missing shots.  In a low-scoring first period, Butler built a slight lead at the end of the first quarter 11-8.  From that point forward, the Raven offense came alive.  Coffeyville had a 23 point output in the second quarter to hold the 31-30 halftime lead.  The second half saw the Ravens hold a 4-5 point lead for most of the second half and eventually end with the 69-61 victory.

Coffeyville's smothering defense held the Grizzlies to only 31% shooting from the field and a low 14% shooting from three.  Coffeyville's shooting was better with 38% from the field including 32% from three.

Butler did hold a large rebound advantage 39-25, which lead to Butler holding a 15-8 advantage in second-chance points.  The turnovers were tied at 25 each, however, Coffeyville held a small lead in "points in the paint" 24-22 and bench points 30-25.

The Ravens had three players in double figures including freshman guard Paige Scott with 19, freshman guard Martina Aeschliman with 15 points, and sophomore center Faith Simpson with 11 points.

Coffeyville will return to action with a rare Monday night home game scheduled for March 15th against the Neosho County Panthers.  Tipoff in Nellis Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
