Red Raven Women's Basketball Snaps 5 Game Win Streak with 68-66 Overtime Loss at Indy

Independence, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball Team went a few miles north and lost 68-66 in heartbreaking overtime fashion to cross-county rivals, the Independence Pirates.  The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Ravens.  With the loss, Coffeyville's overall record falls to 8-3 including a 7-3 KJCCC conference mark.  The 7-3 KJCCC mark currently has the Ravens second behind #6 NJCAA ranked Butler in the seven-team East Division.

The game went see-saw fashion with Coffeyville holding a slim 30-27 halftime lead.  The second half saw the Ravens with a defensive stop at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.  In overtime, the game again came down to the Pirates with the ball with the clock running down, but this time on the Indy missed shot, the Pirates were able to gather the rebound and put it back up and in as the time expired.  68-66 game Indy.

The Ravens held a slight lead in shooting (36% to ICC's 32%) and the teams were even in turnovers (20-20).  The presence of Raven center Faith Simpson gave Coffeyville a huge 30-0 difference in "Points-in-the-Paint".  Where Indy did have an advantage was at the free-throw line, Indy shot 74% to Coffeyville's 63%.

Top game stats for the Ravens included sophomore center Faith Simpson with a season-high 26 points to go along with 9 rebounds.  Sophomore Kaylin Lay and freshman Martina Aeschliman each pitched in 8 points and freshman Devin Wright grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.

Coffeyville will look to shake off the loss with a road game at KJCCC East leader Butler this coming Saturday, March 13th.  The Butler women are currently #6 in the NJCAA rankings and hold an unblemished 12-0 record this year.  Tip-off in El Dorado Kansas is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
