Red Raven Women's Basketball Moves Into Second Place in KJCCC East with 66-56 Victory Over Cloud

COFFEYVILLE, Kan - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Basketball Team moved into second place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) with a 66-56 defeat of the Cloud County Thunderbirds.  With the win, the Red Raven's overall record improves to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in KJCCC league play.

Against Cloud, the game was close throughout the first half with the Ravens holding a slim 30-29 halftime lead.  The third quarter is where Coffeyville was able to gain control of the game, outscoring Cloud County 24-13 in the quarter to take a 54-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  The Ravens were able to fend off the Thunderbirds in the fourth to earn the ten-point 66-56 victory.

According to the stats the game was close with Cloud (36%) holding a small advantage over Coffeyville (34%) in shooting percentage along with Coffeyville (41) with a six rebound advantage on the boards over  Cloud (35).  Team turnovers were similar with Coffeyville holding a small (18-19) advantage.

Red Raven sophomore center Faith Simpson recorded her fourth double-double of the season with game-highs in points (20) and rebounds (12).  Simpson's 12 rebounds included 10 of the 12 on the offensive end.  Other contributors for the Red Ravens included sophomore Kaylin Lay with 11 points, freshman Paige Scott with 11 points, and sophomore Tynica Gilmore who filled up the stat sheet with 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Coffeyville will return to action this Saturday, February 27th with a road game to Iola KS to take on the Red Devils of Allen County.  Tipoff is scheduled for an early 12:00 p.m.
