Red Raven Women's Basketball Loses KJCCC Opener to Hutchinson 70-63

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Basketball team lost their 2020-21 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) opener to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons 70-63.  The Red Raven women's overall record moves to 1-1 and 0-1 in early KJCCC play.

This game was a tale of two halves.

The first half saw the Red Ravens jump out early on the Blue Dragons racking up a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The second quarter saw more of the same with the Red Ravens pushing their lead to 35-19 at halftime.

Starting the third quarter the Ravens pushed their lead even farther and were leading Hutchinson 45-24 (21 points) at the midway mark of the third quarter.  From that point on, the Red Ravens went cold along with the Blue Dragons getting hot.  Over the next ten minutes of game time (5:00 of the third quarter to the 5:00 mark of the fourth quarter) Hutchinson went on a 31-7 run to take a 55-52 lead in the game.  The Blue Dragons went on to the 70-63 victory.

Coffeyville's sophomore Faith Simpson had a big double double (25 points and 13 rebounds) to lead the team with help from Raven freshman Dariauna Carter who pitched in 15 points.

Coffeyville will return to action this Saturday, January 30th with a 2:00 p.m. home clash with the Pratt Beavers.
