Third Quarter Explosion Fuels Ravens Women's Basketball Over Indy

In a home matchup against cross country rivals the Independence Pirates, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven women's basketball team exploded in the third quarter to earn the 79-60 victory over the Pirates.  The victory improves the Raven's overall record to an excellent 19-3 on the season including a KJCCC East division-leading 9-3 in conference games.

The game was close throughout the first half with Coffeyville holding a slim 35-34 lead at halftime.  However, the Ravens came out after halftime and blew out the Pirates in the third quarter outscoring Independence 29-7 in the quarter to take a 64-41 lead going into the fourth quarter.  From there the Ravens were able to cruise to the eventual 79-60 victory.

For the game, Coffeyville shot 50% (28/56) overall and 52% (10/19) from the three-point stripe.  Conversely, the Ravens held the Pirates to 34% (18/53) shooting overall and only 24% (7/29) from three.

Coffeyville's top performers included sophomore Faith Simpson with a game-high 20 points, sophomore Alana Kramer with 17 points and sophomore Ania Markowska pitched in 11 points and 6 rebounds.  Freshman point guard Kailyn Lay contributed 9 points and 8 assists and sophomore McKenzie Murrel-Patton poured in an additional 9 points.

Next up for the Red Ravens is a road game to Chanute Kansas to take on the Panthers of Neosho County.  Game time is set for Saturday, January 25th at 5:30 pm.
