Sizzling Second Half Shooting Powers the Red Raven Women's Basketball Team Over Colby, 74-44

January 8, 2020

The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's basketball team defeated the Colby Trojans 74-44.  With the win, the Red Ravens overall record moves to 14-3 and 4-3 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play (KJCCC).  The 4-3 conference record has the Red Raven's tied for 2nd (with Cowley) in the KJCCC Eastern conference.

The game was close through the first half with Coffeyville holding a close 33-30 lead at halftime.  However, in the second half, the Red Ravens found their 3 point shooting stroke going 7/11 (64%!) from the 3 point line.  Overall for the game, the Ravens shot 48% from the field and 52% from 3.  The second half barrage of 3's from the Red Raven's along with their tight defense seemed to take the life out of Colby with the Trojans only able to score 2 points in the fourth quarter.

Top performers for the Red Ravens included sophomore Faith Simpson who was close to a double/double with 18 points and 9 rebounds and sophomore McKenzie Murrel-Patton with 17 points on 5/7 shooting from the 3 point line.  Overall, six different Red Raven players made at least one 3 pointer.

Next up for Coffeyville will be a January 11th road game to Dodge City KS to take on the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors (9-6).  Tip-off on January 11th is set for 1:00 pm.
