Red Raven Softball Loses Two in Season Opening Doubleheader at Crowder

Neosho, Mo. -

Coffeyville's season opener was highlighted by home runs from Red Raven sophomore pitcher/1st baseman, Joslyn Airington and infielder, Alex Ginnis.  Both players hit their first home runs of the season. Unfortunately, their success was not enough to hamper the fiery bats of the Crowder Roughriders.  Game #1 saw Crowder hop out to a healthy lead and never look back while in Game #2 Coffeyville played better but was still not able to overcome Crowder's offense as the Ravens were defeated in both games.

"We struggled to get in a rhythm hitting but made progress as the day went on.  It is clear that we have a lot of work to do from the mound. We did not come close to the potential the pitching staff has, but it leaves us with a list of things we need to work on", stated Coach Meredith Smith.

Crowder dominated the day at the plate with multiple home runs including a grand slam. The roughrider pitching staff also did their part in keeping the Ravens off balance at the plate.  "It was the first game of the season, but we had aggressive swings and started to piece together some offense.  I believe our lineup will definitely improve game to game as we see better live pitching," Smith commented.

The game Monday, February 6th, with OKWU, has been canceled.  The Red Ravens will be back on the field weather permitting Monday, February 13th vs OKWU at Byers Field in Coffeyville.
