Raven Freshman Gijs Hovius Scores the Hat-Trick as #17 Red Ravens Defeat #19 Dodge City 5-1

Coffeyville, Kan. - The #17 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team earned a home victory over the #19 Dodge City Community College Conquistadors 5-1.  With the victory, Coffeyville's overall record improves to 6-2 including a 1-0 record in KJCCC matchups.

The Red Raven team was led by freshman striker Hijs Hovius who was marvelous on the afternoon scoring three goals to earn the hat-trick in the Ravens' 5-1 victory.  Hovius scored the opening goal of the match barely eight minutes into the first half with an assist by sophomore Mark Mcdaid.   Coffeyville led 1-0 for the remainder of the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead over Dodge City.

The second half saw the scoring open up with Raven sophomore Jack Greenwood scoring a header with an assist by Pedro Branco to put Coffeyville up 2-0 at the 50:00 minute mark of the second half.  Raven freshman Tristan Skeritt got into the action netting a goal at the 65:00 minute mark of the second half with an assist from freshman Alejandro Valles to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.

Dodge City was able to score a goal off of a penalty kick rebound to get the Conquistadors on the board 3-1.

Hovius put the game away for Coffeyville scoring the last two goals of the contest as both goals were assisted by freshman Ayoto Kaneki.

Coffeyville moves next to another KJCCC matchup with a trip to Garden City Community College to face the Broncbusters on Sunday, September 18th.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm in Garden City Kansas.
