Red Ravens Earn NJCAA Tournament Victory, Defeat Laramie County 3-2

Tyler, Texas - Playing in their second pool play game of the 2021 NJCAA Men's Div I Soccer National Championship Tournament, the #10 seeded Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team defeated #6 seeded Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles 3-2.  Through the first two days of NJCAA Tournament matches, the Red Ravens were the only lower seed to earn a victory.  With the victory, the Red Ravens overall record improves to a program-record 18-2-1.

The Red Raven's Men's Soccer Team can score quickly, a fact that Golden Eagles of Laramie County found out the hard way.

Laramie County came into the match with a five-game shutout streak on the line with their last goal against coming way back on October 6th in a 5-1 victory over Western Nebraska.  Coffeyville came into the match after a hard-fought 6-2 loss to Iowa Western in their opening pool round game of the NJCAA Tournament the day before.  Coffeyville was hungry to show that the opening round loss was not going to define their season.

Laramie County found themselves overwhelmed and somewhat shell-shocked after the Red Ravens netting THREE! goals in a two in a half minute window in the first half.  From the 16:00 mark to the 18:30 mark of the first half the Red Ravens netted three unassisted goals.  Red Raven freshman defender Antonio Padstawski netted the first goal of the match at the 16:01 mark of the first half.  With that goal, Coffeyville had their first lead of the Tournament.  Two minutes later freshman forward Jack Greenwood was also able to score to give the Red Ravens a quick 2-0 lead.  Amazingly, just 25 seconds later, Greenwood netted his second of the match to give the Red Ravens a huge 3-0 lead over the Golden Eagles.  From that moment forward, the Red Ravens had control of the match.  Coffeyville went into halftime with the 3-0 lead.

The second half saw Coffeyville's defense play excellent in defending the Golden Eagles' furious offensive attempts, Red Raven sophomore goalkeeper Cuba Grant faced 13 shots on goal in the match.  Coffeyville did give up two goals late in the match but was able to secure the 3-2 victory.  Coffeyville's victory was the only "upset" through the first two days of the NJCAA Tournament based on seeding.

Coffeyville will now wait for the outcome of Wednesday's, November 17th matchup of #3 Iowa Western/#6 Laramie County to see who will advance from their pool.

*Update - Iowa Western defeated Laramie County to advance from the Coffeyville's pool into the semifinals.  The Red Ravens' season ends with a program-record 18-2-1 record.
