Red Ravens Fall to Iowa Western 6-2 in Opening Match at NJCAA Tournament

Tyler, Texas - The #10 seeded Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team lost in their opening round match to #3 seeded Iowa Western 6-2.  With the loss, the Red Ravens overall record falls to 17-3-1.

Coming into the match, the Red Ravens knew they had their hands full in the sense that Iowa Western had only allowed a total of 5 goals all year.  No team had scored more than a goal against the Reivers all season.

This NJCAA Tournament match was decided over a twenty-five-minute stretch in the first half.  From the eleventh minute of the match through the thirty-sixth minute, Iowa Western scored four goals against the Ravens to take a 4-0 lead.  From that point forward, the Ravens played the Reivers evenly but spotting them that 4-0 lead was something the Ravens could not overcome.

Coffeyville can take some small comfort in that they were able to score two goals against a team that had only allowed five all season.

After spotting Iowa Western a 4-0 lead, Coffeyville freshman forward Christian Miranda-Cordeiro scored the Ravens' first goal of the match in the 56th minute to pull Coffeyville within a 4-1 margin.  After another Iowa Western goal to go ahead 5-1, Coffeyville sophomore defender Pedro Branco netted Coffeyville's last goal of the match in the 75th minute to pull within 5-2.  The Reivers scored a capping goal in the 80th minute to finish the match with the 6-2 victory.

Coffeyville does have another match NJCAA Tournament as the teams play in three-team pool play with one team advancing out of the three teams to the semifinals.

Coffeyville will return to action in the 2021 NJCAA Tournament with a 3:00 pm match on Tuesday, November 16th against #6 seeded Laramie County.
