Ravens Play Third OT Game in a Row, Defeat Johnson 2-1, WIN KJCCC East Championship!

Overland Park, Kan. - The #11 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team defeated the Johnson County Cavaliers 2-1 in double overtime.  The double-overtime game was the third overtime match in a row for the Ravens.  With the victory, Coffeyville improved their 2021 overall record to 11-0-1 including a 6-0-1 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.  The 6-0-1 record in KJCCC matches will be enough for the Ravens to win the 2021 KJCCC East Div I Men's Soccer Championship.  The Conference Championship is the second in a row for the Red Ravens after winning the 2020 East Championship.

The Ravens opened up the scoring against Johnson with sophomore Alvaro Romero taking an assist from sophomore Daniel Gomes and placing it into the back of the net to give Coffeyville the 1-0 lead at the 34:00 mark of the first half.  Both teams finished out the first half strong defensively and the Ravens went into halftime with the 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second half, Johnson was able to equalize the score with a goal of their own to knot up the score at 1-1.  Again, both teams stepped up their defenses and neither team was able to find paydirt for the rest of the game.  For the third game in a row for Coffeyville, they were heading to overtime.

The first overtime went by with neither team gaining the go-ahead goal and a second overtime was required.

At the 5:00 mark of the second overtime,  Coffeyville freshman Jack Greenwood placed the game-winning goal in the back of the net with an assist by sophomore Tiago Dias.  With the goal, the Red Ravens won their second straight KJCCC East Championship!

Next up for the newly minted KJCCC East Champions and #11 ranked Red Ravens will be a road trip to the KJCCC West-leading and #4 NJCAA ranked Cowley Tigers.  Game time in Arkansas City is set for 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 9th.
