#17 Red Raven Men's Soccer Scorching Hot in 6-1 Victory over Garden City

Coffeyville, Kan. - On a hot summer afternoon, the #17 NJCAA ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Soccer Team came out scorching in a 6-1 defeat of the Broncbusters of Garden City.  With the victory, the Red Ravens remain undefeated with a 5-0 overall record which includes a 4-0 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference match record.

It took just six minutes for Coffeyville to net their first goal of the game. Red Raven sophomore Daniel Gomes chipped a beautiful ball over the Broncbusters' backline and into the path of freshman Rhys Thompson. Thompson slotted the ball perfectly past Garden City's goalkeeper with a first-time finish. Garden City found an equalizer just six minutes later to make it a 1-1 game. The Red Ravens were determined to win back control of the game. They did just that through sophomore Aleksandar Mihaylov. Mihaylov collected the ball 55-yards from the Broncbusters' goal. He drove at Garden City's defense with pace and confidence. 20-yards from the goal, Mihaylov dropped his shoulder, lost his defender, and curled a wonder of a strike around the goalkeeper.

Coffeyville found their third goal in the 23rd minute. Sophomore Tiago Dias pinged a long ball to the feet of freshman Richie Bailey. Bailey took a positive touch forward past his defender, dribbled into the 18-yard box, and placed the ball into the back of the net. Bailey turned from finisher to provider in the 33rd minute. Freshman Jack Greenwood opened his scoring account for the Red Ravens thanks to Bailey's cross. This would be the last of Coffeyville's goals in the first half. Making the scoreline 4-1 to the Red Ravens going into halftime.

Coming out of the half, Garden City still had a bit of life to them. Coffeyville quickly ended any hopes of a comeback by scoring a fifth decisive goal just two minutes into the second half. Red Raven sophomore Nicolaus Stoddart did well to take the ball to the byline and square a dangerous cross into the path of sophomore Zedan Mutlu. Mutlu out-muscled his defender and tapped the ball into the back of the net. The Red Ravens' sixth, and what proved to be their last goal, came just five minutes later. Jack Greenwood used his size and strength to win the first ball off Bailey's throw-in. Greenwood laid off a perfectly weighted pass to the feet of Stoddart. Nicolaus took one touch to control the ball, then quickly hit a strike past the Broncbuster's goalkeeper.

After scoring their sixth goal, the Red Ravens kept possession of the ball and gave Garden City no chance of coming back into the game. Coffeyville saw the remainder of the game out by defending well, creating chances, and keeping the ball in the Broncbusters' half of the field. The final score finished 6-1 in favor of the Red Ravens.

Coffeyville will return to action on September 14th with a road game to Bartlesville Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan JV.  The kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
