Red Raven Nathan Johnson Scores 31 as #13 Ravens Defeat Barton 95-86

Great Bend, Kan. - Red Raven sophomore guard Nathan Johnson scored a career-high 31 points as the #13 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team defeated the Barton Cougars 95-86.  With the victory, the Red Ravens improved their 2023 overall record to 19-5 including a 13-5 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.  The 13-5 KJCCC record currently has the Ravens tied for second place in the 13-team KJCCC Div I conference.

31 and 28 were the numbers in this one.  Raven sophomore guard Nathan Johnson scored a career-high 31 points in the game (23 of those in the second half) while the Red Ravens as a team did not miss a free throw in the game as they went 28 for 28 from the charity stripe.

The pesky Cougars has some runs in the game and took their last lead of the game with a 76-75 lead with five minutes to go in the game.  The Ravens were able to answer with a Camian Shell-made 3-ptr at the 4:26 mark remaining in the game.  Six made free throws in the final 30 seconds sealed the 95-86 victory for Coffeyville.

After Johnson's career-high 31 points (11/13 overall and 3/4 from 3, 6/6 FT), freshman guard Camian Shell had 18 points and 9 rebounds and sophomore Jordan Wildy had 14 points and 5 rebounds.  Rounding out the double-digit scoring was freshman Sotirios Nafpliotis with 11 points.

Coffeyville will return to action this Wednesday, February 8th with a home game against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons.  The tip-off is scheduled in Nellis Hall for 7:30 pm.
