Red Ravens Fall to Garden City 84-67 in Quarterfinals of Region VI Tournament

Garden City, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team traveled to Garden City to face the Broncbusters in the quarterfinal round of the Region VI Tournament.  The Red Ravens and Broncbusters had played twice in the regular season with the teams splitting the series with the road team winning in close fashion on the other's home court.  However, in the rubber game, as the road team, the Red Ravens fell to the Broncbusters 84-67.  With the loss, Coffeyville ends their 2022 season with an overall record of 18-13.

Through the first half, Coffeyville was able to control the tempo of the game which allowed the Red Ravens to grab a 40-34 halftime lead.  However, in the second half, Garden City sped up the pace of the game and the Red Ravens struggled to respond.  During a roughly seven-minute span of the game starting at the 12:00 mark of the second half, the Broncbusters went on a 23-6 spurt to take a 75-57 lead over the Ravens.  Coffeyville pushed hard at the end to close the gap but Garden City was able to secure the 84-67 victory.

Coffeyville head coach Jay Herkelman, in arguing his side with the officials, received his second technical foul with about one minute left to play in the game.  This forced assistant coach Kyle Cambell to finish the game out for the Red Ravens on the bench.

The team stats for the game were similar in most areas with rebounds (36-35), shooting percentages (41%-39%) and assists (14-14) being almost identical.  However, the couple of areas that were telling were turnovers (20-12) with Coffeyville leading with 20 turnovers and free throws with Coffeyville going 6/11 from the charity stripe in the game while Garden City went 23/35.

Red Raven sophomore guard Love Bettis led Coffeyville with 16 points while sophomore guard AJ McBride followed that up with 10 points.  Raven sophomore center Blaise Keita put up 7 points while pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.
